Our Story

We began the business over 20 years' ago and although it has grown and developed in some ways,  we have taken the decision to down-size. We currently have one twin bedroom and converted another bedroom into a small sitting room so that guests have more space during their stay. The sitting room is equipped with HD TV, a range of coffees and teas,  a small fridge and DVD player and radio. Guests have their own bathroom and the entire guest area is located on the ground floor with its' own front door from the garden. Tigh Ur is located in a quiet corner of Dollar with Dollar Glen and the local golf course only a few minutes' walk from the house.
Dollar is in a rural part of central Scotland. It is known for its' school, Dollar Academy, which is a few minutes' walk from Tigh Ur. Visitors come to the area to see the castle, play golf or to access towns such as St. Andrew's, which is a 40 minute drive, Gleneagles (30 minute drive), Edinburgh or Glasgow (40 minutes). There are some local grocery shops but nightlife is limited.
We have two dogs. They do not access the guest area but people who have allergies to dogs should be aware of this. Tigh Ur  pronounced "tie oor" is gaelic for "new house".

Breakfast

The 14th century fortress towers one mile above Tigh Ur. It can be accessed by car up a narrow road which has car parks half way up and and at the top. The building is no longer roofed but various chambers still exist and the views from the castle and grounds are breath-taking.

This is the Burnside so called as a burn runs between both sides of the road. You travel up the Burnside to reach Tigh Ur. Frequently a Heron can be seen fishing from the rocks. Dollar has tennis courts, golf course and bowling green. There are several coffee shops, one pub and a post office.

Breakfast is served between 8.00am and 9.00am in our upstairs breakfast room. We offer a cooked breakfast as well as a range of cereals, fruit and yoghurt. Even if you don't like the food, the view of the castle  is impressive!
